Cape Code: Ocean Edge Resort

Ocean Edge resort_cover.jpg

Travel during the pandemic has been pretty much non-existent for us. We’ve been trying to navigate what makes sense and is comfortable for us. Back in July, our friends, who have 2 kids, invited us to join them on a trip to Ocean Edge Resort down in the Cape. We mulled over it for a few days, called the resort to ask a handful of questions before we decided to go. We opted to stay in one of the villas as it seemed to be an option where we wouldn’t have to cross through many common areas. The villas are group by 4’s, which means that only three other units shared the same entrance as us. In full disclosure, we did bring our own sheets and towels. Not sure if that was going overboard but did give us some peace of mind. Upon arrival to our villa, Dan went inside and Clorox wiped all surfaces (concentrating on ones where Eleanor could reach). Once done, Eleanor and I went in and I changed the sheets and set up the pack and play.

I would say overall, we felt pretty safe/comfortable while staying at the resort. On the second day there, we went to one of the larger pools right when it opened at 10AM. The chairs were spaced out nicely and people seemed to be pretty good about wearing their masks when moving around the pool. However, as it got busier, people seemed to be a little more lax with the mask wearing and keeping space in the pool area. Shortly after lunch, we left. Our experience at the beach was much more pleasant. Once we staked out our spot, people were good about keeping their distance. We were there over the Fourth of July, so not sure if it would have been quieter had we chosen to travel during the week. You should definitely check out my friend Biana’s blogpost of her family trip to the same resort as they traveled after the 4th.

Ok, so here are some highlights from our trip (mostly of food!).

Coffee & Breakfast

Note: We ordered takeout from all of the following establishments.

How could we not go to a place called Cake 4 Breakfast?! It’s the cutest little spot with plenty of yummy treats!

The next morning, we tried APT, a farm to table restaurant. Pictured here is their avocado toast. It was so fresh and tasty! We also ordered a side of their grilled banana bread, which is a must (E was a fan)!

Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters was the perfect spot for an afternoon coffee.

One day we all decided to venture out of Brewster for lunch. We went to Arnold’s in Eastham. This was also our very first outdoor dining experience since quarantine. The setup was great. We sat at a picnic table while the husbands both went to order our food. I felt very comfortable here as the tables were spaced out nicely and people were good about staying put at their tables and only got up as needed. Everyone’s meal was great. I wasn’t super hungry and got the lobster bisque, highly recommend!

Another seafood spot we enjoyed in Brewster was JT’s Seafood Restaurant. This was super close to the resort and we ordered takeout from here two nights in a row. The lobster roll and crab cakes were excellent choices.

On our last night in Brewster, we opted for Italian food. We ordered pizzas from La Bella Vita, which is located in Orleans (the next town over).

To Do

We took a small family hike at Nickerson State Park before we headed to Arnold’s for lunch. There are many paved trails, which is great for the stroller. We opted for a short one and it was wonderful to be outside getting in some exercise.

During one of Eleanor’s afternoon nap, I took a solo drive through town. I spotted this cute little boutique and naturally pulled over to go in. The store was limiting the number of people inside and everyone was wearing a mask. I nabbed a tie-dye sweatshirt (as if I needed more sweatshirts) and bracelets for Eleanor and her little friends who we were traveling with.
